What to Expect in Worship

Episcopal worship at Trinity is traditional, reverent, and deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition.

Liturgy: Our services follow the classic forms of the Book of Common Prayer, with scripture readings, prayers, and responses shared by clergy and congregation. Worship is structured but welcoming, and everything you need is printed in a bulletin that guides you step by step.

Music: Music is central to our worship. The choir leads the congregation in hymns and psalms and offers anthems ranging from Renaissance composers to present‑day works, all within the Anglican choral tradition.

Most congregational hymns come from The Hymnal 1982. Whether you sing confidently or quietly, your participation is welcome.

Style: Our worship holds beauty and accessibility together, offering space for silence, joyful song, and shared prayer.

You don’t need to know what to do. Simply follow along, listen, and participate as you feel comfortable.

About Holy Communion

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. If you prefer not to receive, you may come forward for a blessing. If navigating steps is difficult, please let an usher know and Communion will be brought to you.

What Should I Wear?

Come as you are. You’ll see people wearing everything from jeans to dresses to business attire. There is no dress code.

Who We Are

On the corner of Broadway and Berry, in downtown Fort Wayne, sits an old stone church.

For more than 175 years, disciples of Jesus Christ have gathered at Trinity Episcopal Church. They have served those in need and cared for one another. They have planted new churches and worked together to help bring to fruition God’s dream for all of God’s children.

This old stone church houses a rich and storied history — but our history does not define the present, or our future.

At Trinity, all people are welcomed and encouraged to grow into the full image of God. Regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, race, or physical ability, we believe that God loves you…no exceptions.

We have more questions than answers. We believe, and we pray for the strength to overcome our disbelief. We are sinners with pasts, and saints in the making. We commit to journeying together on the path of love that is the way of Jesus Christ.

Life is made of moments. Whether we are 7 months, 17 years, 37 years, or 77 years old, we need one another to live fully in those moments — to become peacemakers in a violent world, healers rather than people who bring harm, and holy listeners rather than those who judge without compassion.

You are welcome to belong here — exactly as you are.

Children & Families

Children of all ages are welcome in worship.

  • Activity bags are available in the Common Room (outside the Nave)

  • Nursery care is available from 8:30–11:30 AM

  • Sunday School is offered during morning services

  • Wiggles, whispers, and wonder are part of family life — you are welcome here

Restrooms

Restrooms are located:

  • In the Common Room outside the Nave

  • Down the hall past the nursery

After the Service

You’re invited to:

  • Stay for coffee or fellowship

  • Ask questions

  • Meet clergy or parishioners

  • Or leave quietly, if you prefer

There is no pressure to introduce yourself or join anything.

Getting Involved (As Much or As Little As You Wish)

Life at Trinity is shaped by worship, service, and shared life together. There are many ways to connect, and you are welcome to participate at whatever level feels right for you.

Our ministries generally fall into a few broad areas:

  • Worship & Liturgical Life: Parishioners serve as acolytes, altar guild members, lectors, ushers, greeters, and lay eucharistic ministers, helping to support our shared prayer and welcome all who enter.

  • Music & the Arts: Trinity’s musical life is central to worship and includes choir leadership, congregational singing, and care for our Anglican choral tradition.

  • Pastoral Care & Community Support: Members care for one another through pastoral care ministries, visiting and supporting those who are sick, homebound, or in need of prayer and companionship.

  • Outreach & Justice: We serve our neighbors through outreach ministries and partnerships that respond to local needs and work toward justice and compassion in the wider community.

  • Formation & Fellowship: Opportunities for spiritual growth and connection include Bible studies, book groups, women’s groups, young adult ministry, and informal gatherings.

  • Stewardship & Leadership: Parishioners also serve behind the scenes through commissions and leadership roles that care for our property, steward our resources, and support Trinity’s mission.

You do not need to join everything — or anything — right away. Some people begin by worshiping quietly for a time; others step into ministry quickly. Both are faithful ways of belonging here.
