Meet Our Clergy
T.J. Freeman has served as the 19th Rector (senior pastor) of Trinity Church since July of 2017. Previously he served as Curate and then Associate Rector at Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, PA. T.J. and his wife Annie are both native Hoosiers and graduates of Hanover College in Madison, IN. They have two school age children. T.J. has served the Episcopal Church in various roles both at the local and national levels. He is a lifelong Cubs fan, an unaccomplished artist, and someone who enjoys fall more than any other season.
The Reverend Canon Gordon L. Samra is a third-generation member here at Trinity Episcopal Church. He was baptized here in 1944, married here in July of 1967, and ordained into the diaconate here in November 1995. His ministry is about pastoral care for those who require spiritual care and support. He helped set up the first computer here in 1986. He currently has served here longer than any other minister in the church’s 175-year history. He is the first minister here at Trinity who has been canonized. He volunteers at a local hospital here in Fort Wayne as a chaplain. He also had a business career with Dana Corporation for forty years. He even used to be a freelance photographer, “Samra’s Camera,” back when cameras required film. Back then, he never would have thought that someday he would develop into being a Canon; back then, he thought that maybe a Nikon would have been nice. He and his wife Patricia have two grown sons and three grandchildren. The goal in his life has been attempting to prevent his obsolescence.
Fr. Phil joined Trinity as Curate in July 2019 after finishing his seminary studies at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA. As Curate, Phil is involved in the full scope of Trinity’s ministries; he has a particular passion for preaching, Christian formation, and contemplative spirituality. Outside of church, you will likely find him hanging out in a local coffeeshop with his nose in a a book or exploring Fort Wayne’s historical and cultural offerings.
