On Good Friday, a WANE-TV camera parked in the back of Trinity feed a live shot of the Seven Last Words service to the Fort Wayne community. Was the presence of a camera out of place during such as solemn occasion? Well, no. The camera was unobtrusive. Moreover, while the shot itself was brief, the statement it made for the noontime viewing audience was important: Trinity is alive, and it is thriving.

The presence of the television camera wasn’t by happenstance. Indeed, this is part of a larger strategy to recast Trinity as a vital church for people and families seeking a vibrant faith community. This is the type of branding work tasked to Trinity’s Communications and Publicity committee. Reformed last summer, the committee is responsible outward facing communications, including press relations, advertising, the Web site, and branding. While internal publications, such as the monthly newsletter and weekly reminder, do not fall under the supervision of committee’s prevue, the hope is that the committee will provide guidance for enhancing existing properties and have a hand at developing new tools, too.

In the coming months, the congregation should continue to see Trinity’s name in the media, everything from briefs to, hopefully, larger feature articles or coverage in the electronic media. Parishioners will also see big changes the Web site in the coming months.

While Trinity’s Communications and Publicity committee is off and running, we still need help, especially from people can write and edit and have fresh ideas. If you’d like to help, please contact Fred McKissack at 456-4494 or fmckissack@hotmail.com.
